Ashby moto park was the first track we did a dirty weekend at and it has a bit of something for every rider of every standard, a nice mulchy motocross track, twisty woodland sections and an extreme enduro section. The track owner is constantly adding to and altering the track layout, adding new features all the time, this is being recognised as one of the up and coming venues for national and international events!
Because of the mulch base to the MX section the track is pretty resiliant in most weather types, it cuts up a little like a sand track but is very forgiving and makes for a great place to build up confidence on a loose surface. There are twists and turns mixed in with jumps and berms, around the track we set up loops of woodland off-shoots that make for great singletrack enduro practice and the whole track never feels crowded or busy. The site layout lends itself to the dirty weekend very well and as such we can set out a kids/novice track totally seperate from the main loop, this tight undulating little course is long enough to keep the juniors and less confident riders happy and lets their confidence build naturally safe in the knowledge that they are not ‘getting in the way’ of the more daring riders!
Although not normally a camping venue, socially, Ashby is a great track, there is loads of parking and camping space and this makes for a really friendly feel to the Ashby events and located conveniently just off J13 on the A42 which is on the border of Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Derbyshire. There are toilets on site but not drinking water however there is a 24hr Tesco, McDonalds and Travel lodge just a few moments drive away from the track itself!
